The inspiration for my
practice is womanhood. My aim is to emphasise and celebrate the many roles of
women through the construction of garments, drawing from both an individual and
collective identity.
By focusing on the 1940s and 1950s and the effect of the
Second World War on women’s lives, the work functions as wearable art that
examines the radical reinvention of female identity during this period.
By
deconstructing garments typical of this era and reinterpreting them using
traditional embroidery techniques, a diversity of felting methods and contemporary technologies, my work creates a thoughtful
critique on the emergence of modern woman.
